Default What to do with 05 with spun bearing

I have an '05 2.4i with just under 72k that I think spun a bearing. The dealership can't tell me exactly what the issue is without me spending more money for them to dig into it a little more, so for my purposes - we'll call it a spun bearing.

I put the thing on craigslist as-is for $2800 and got an overwhelming response, so I realized that it's worth more than that. I pulled it off and now I'm looking into getting an engine and having it swapped. I think I've found a decent one (3k miles... sounds a little too good to be true) for $2k. If this guy isn't full of it and I want to go ahead and do this, what should I expect to pay for the swap?

And if this doesn't pan out, what's the most I should spend on the engine? I'm figuring if I can get it taken care of for less than $4k I should be able to sell it for $9-10k and make $4-5k. Does that sound reasonable? What's it's worth with the busted engine? Can I just get $4-5k for it as is?

All the options seem so similar $$$-wise, I'm having a tough time figuring this out. Just trying to make sure all my assumptions are correct...

Why not just have the bearings done?

jdsr - you think even with a used engine in there I could get that much? I figured i'd be taking a little more of a hit for going this route rather than new, factory installed...

at any rate - looks like it's gonna work out with the '06 engine with 3k miles... should be getting the whole swap done for about $3k. Wish me luck!

tech - not COMPLETELY sure it's a spun bearing, so I think for $3k I'll just cut my losses and do the swap for the engine with 3k. If I were to "get the bearings done (sorry for my ignorance, don't know exactly what that involves) what do you think I should expect to pay? and what do you think the bad engine is worth to someone if it indeed just needs the bearings done?

Well we did a S60 not that long ago with also doing a head job and the bill was around 2k including all the head work.

The oil pan needs to be dropped then the bearings can be swapped out.

Unless your going to keep the car i wouldn't swap i would just replace the bearings.... If there is one thing i can tell u it is that tech is probable one of the most informative and knowledgeable ppl on this site! so he would know the best route.
