Spun a bearing

Spun a bearing
My 2006 Volvo S60 just hit 69,000 miles and as if on cue, spun a bearing and the motor came to a halt. My lovely Volvo dealership service center said, "Well 69,000 miles is a lot of miles for a car." Are you kidding me???? The motor is toats and they quoted me $12k plus for repair. What a piece of crap. Anyone else have this problem? I asked the service man if Volvo has been having this kind of problem and he wouldn't answer. Anyone...?

My wife"s s60 spun #5 rod bearing. Probably caused by loss of oil pressure from oil pickup o-ring going bad. I don't know how long she drove between oil changes. It is the rod farthest from the oil pump. The rest of the bottom end looks fine. The two bearing shells were welded together in the top of the rod and the bolts were hand tight.

Forgot to add: 2001 T5 with 95,000 miles. Can't say that neglect wasn't part of the equation. I don't know how far she drove it with the ck engine light on and I doubt I get a straight story from her. I will say I'm not that impressed with Mobile 1. I've been building engines for many years and this engine was pretty nasty inside.

When were all your oil changes done? Every 3k or 7,500? The was the worse thing Volvo ever did was go to a 7,500 service interval!
Turbo cars should be every 3K N/A should be 3K as well but can be stretched a little more. Turbo cars should be done at 3K on the dot.
I just got done rebuilding my 850 motor that spun a bearing. But that was from me racing it. Not sure if it was oil temps or not.
But 2 things that kill the bearings are lack of oil and really high oil temps. I doubt your car had really high oil temps.

Sorry to hear of you trouble. I agree the 69,000 miles line is bull, but, if it's out of warranty, you don't have much recourse...
If you want to fix it, I'd seek out a reputable supplier of rebuilt volvo engines - if they do a proper job of inspection and overhaul, it should as good as new and a heck of a lot cheaper. The trouble is finding an outfit that doesn't just clean them up and repaint them. A substantial warranty would be a good sign, and a recommendation from someone in the repair business would too.
Then find an independent garage that will swap the engines for you. Between the cheaper parts and the cheaper labor, I will bet you can get it done for half what the dealer quoted, or less.
