What is this part called?
On the Volvo s40 what is the part called that fits under the sunroof glass. It is the part that you can open or close by hand with no trouble at all. I have a question about it, but I must know what it is called first.
This is not the moving glass on the sunroof that opens and closes automatically with the push of a button.
It the shade that is under the glass on the inside of the Volvo. It is accessible by the driver and passenger (if you have a passenger with you). This is done to keep harsh sunlight out of the car's compartment. Just pull the shade forward and the sunlight is blocked.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Okay, but here is the problem. I have a 2002 Volvo s40, nice car, but this shade rattles like crazy now and it is very noise. The noise when driving over bumpy roads is close to intolerable.
How can I fix this? I stuck a piece of rubber (actually a rubber band) between the shade and it holder where it fits loosely and rattles. It works sort of. I did not have is problem until recently. I am sure it has something to do with the age of the car.

If I lived in Florida with it non-pothole roads this would not be a problem. But live in New England instead. There are lots of potholes in the streets. Lots of them!!!
Driving over them is always a challenge, but a noisy one and the noise comes from my sunroof shade. It is an old car and the shade is now coming apart. It holds together very well until the car hits a pothole; almost guaranteed to happen up here. Then it is shake rattle and roll.
Now if I could remove the sunroof shade and glue it back together then I would be way ahead of the game. Then there would be no more rattle. Can I do this? I would put it back and everything is fine.
Again can I remove just the sunshade?
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, but it seems an involved process to get it out of the sunroof opening. The shade is obviously inside and the siding window is above it. To remove it requires removing the window first, I think. That a big job.
Is there an easier way?
Any help appreciated.

What year is your S40. If it is 2004.5 and up, it is pretty easy to remove the glass and the shade. I did it on my '05 V50. Just a few torx screws holding the glass then 4 more holding the shade (careful not to loose any of the hardware) and it lifts right out.
For the 2000-2004, I'm not sure yet but I need to take my son's sunroof apart to fix it. It is a different design than the later generation. They refer to it as a cassette.
