Wipers decided to just stop working 07' S40
OK, this car is starting to test my faith.... Just today the wipers just stopped working. The sprayer still works, just no wipers on intermitten, setting 1 or 2. Interesting part is that I checked the fuse first and it is supposed to be in slot f17 for "Windshield Wipers", but guess what.....no fuse is present. It looks like one has never been in there anyway, but just in case I hopped down to Auto Zone and got a 30 amp and put it in slot f17 as called for on the cover, no change. I took the blades off and the motor cover and don't really know how to test to see if the issue is with the switch on the stering column or the actual motor. How can I determine which one is bad? I have a volt meter and pulled the connector off the motor and put black to black and then tested the other two hot wires, one giving 12 volts and the second giving about 9v. The weird think is that they are giving that no matter what the stering column is set to. Off, intermitten, 1 or 2...always the same. Seems strange to me. Also, is there a wiper regulator or something that might also be bad? There is a box to the left of the motor that has electrical plug to it, a black box with vents, but I don't know if that is part of the wipper assembly or something else. Any ideas? It doesnt rain often in AZ, but gonna need wipers at some time in the future.

Figured it out. I tried to retrofit HID bulbs in place of the H11's. It is well documented that the lights will never work correctly (which they didn't) and that eventually your windshield wipers will act weird and go crazy then burn out, which mine did. Why..??? Who knows, has something to do with the change but now that I replaced the lights with the original and put a new wiper motor in, we are good to go.

From the research that I did, the reason the wipers go out is because the wipers share a ground with the driver side power connector to the headlight.
When I installed my HIDs I installed a relay and I don't even touch the ground plugin of the driver side plugin.
The other option is to reground the ballast to the chassis of the car. I like the relay option because a relay provides proper (and steady) voltage to the ballast.
