Default 2002 S60 2.4T **no start, stall, smoke, help!!**

Hey all,

I have a 2002 S60 2.4t fwd, and have noticed the odd hard time starting, and almost everyday, the smell of gas at startup.
The hard time starting has been on and off since I've had the car (a year and a half). I bought a new battery this year, and still seems to have a hard time starting once in a while..
There is the smell of gas pretty much every single time I start the car. Temp doesn't matter. I scanned the car and p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed came up. Also some dtc's for accelerator pedal position, and engine speed sensor.
I thought if the ETM was not opening as it should, might cause the car to inject more fuel than needed when starting, but I'm not sure this makes sense.... once running, the smell quickly leaves. I will be cleaning the ETM soon, or maybe getting a TPS...
I'm going to check my fuel pressure next...
I also cannot find the fuel regulator/damper/sensor on my engine... it is not attached to the side of fuel rail.... nothing online or YouTube to clarify this....
The car idles fine, no jumping. No smoke from exhaust. No stalling, or poor acceleration.
thanks everyone...

Oil at base of coupler...

Where is fuel regulatir/damper/sensor?

I included the oil coming up in the turbo coupler into the charge air pipe because I figured this might be the cause of the throttle possibly being gunked up..at least, not helping matters.. anyone know why oil is coming up from the turbo into the charge air pipe??

not sure about the fuel pressure damper - I'd trace the fuel line from the firewall (it was under the intake manifold on my 850 and my S40 has the FPR on the end of the fuel rail). If you are getting oil into your intake air pipe - it could be coming from the PCV system or you have a turbo oil seal issue (the bearing shaft is lubricated by engine oil and when the seals go, oil can find its way into the intake air or the exhaust. Did you pop off the air tube right at the turbo to see if the turbo looks clean or oily? Not sure what you mean by "turbo being gunked up". If the turbo itself is full of crud, its time to rebuild or replace.

I've edited the above post to say: throttle being gunked up..
Today the car started, then stalled down the road. Upon restart, the idle was bouncing, engine light on, and a few seconds later stalled again. I pushed it home, waited for 2 minutes, and restarted. No engine light stayed on. No codes when I scan it.
I'm sure this is all related to the ETM, but I'm wondering if the fuel pressure damper/regulator could be source of gas smell at start, or is that still the ETM? Also, if it's possible the oil fumes from the intake system are prematurely ruining my ETM...

since you have oil in the intake, its possible the MAF is dirty. Try taking some CRC MAF Cleaner (not carb cleaner) and clean the MAF and the throttle body as best you can to see if that helps. Did you scan for any CEL codes yet?

Default S60 from Hell

I did, and got a few different codes each time..
I got a CEL and picked up an ETM actuator stuck closed, so thought okay, clean or replace throttle. Symptoms were hard start once in a while, and gas smell at start... I cleared the codes.
I replaced spark plugs, did oil change.
Next,, car stalled, CEL came on. Waited 2 mins, restarted sluggish, but no CEL on.. scanned it on drive to work, no codes.
On way home, car clinked while up shifting, then went into some form of limp mode..
STC light is on, but no CEL.
Car will not accelerate, not shift past a certain gear, smokes and stalled trying to start.. scanned and now say MAF and CEM..

So I dont know where to look. I just ordered a PCV kit from ipd to replace next week when it arrives,. Can test fuel pressure, can clean the MAF and ETM, I'm thinking my turbo is pooched....

I couldnt disconnect my MAF tonight, unclipped the sensor, 2 torx screws, hose clamp.. couldnt pull them apart, didn't want to risk cracking the intake pipe. Am I missing something here?? Starting to feel sad and discouraged...my poor S60!!!!!!!!
