Default 2005 S60 Key FOB

Hi, my wife and I just purchased our first Volvo, a 2005 S60. With the purchase we only recieved one key FOB and teh dealer is saying another Key FOB is somewhere around $100-$125. Is this true? Is there another place we would be able to purchase another one and a valet key.

TIA..

That actually isnt a bad price for a key fob.. one of the best dealer prices I have heard of actually...

Alternatively, www.myswedishparts.com and you can order the fob there and get the dealer to code it... Ask about pricing...

LOL at least that's what the dealer told us when we picked up the car. They were suppose to call us with a price but we have not heard from them as of yet....

Replacement Volvo keys have to be programmed for the security code in your vehicle, so you pay for the basic key, cutting the key, the software, and then the labor to install the software. Last year we got a replacement key, not the one with the remote door opener, and they charge you for one hour labor ($115), so the total cost was around $215. If you want a new key with the remote, it will be much more because there's also the programming of the software that opens the door lock. You can't get this done anywhere but at the Volvo Dealer due to needing to use a new Volvo key and software........guess that's a good thing from the standpoint of protecting our vehicles from theft even if the prices seem a rip off!

Is the dealer really the only place to go to get a valet key programmed? I only received the key fob with the car when I bought my 05 V70 2.4 last year. Just bought the valet key for $65. From the dealer & then was informed about the software and labor cost of $150.

Yes the dealer is the only place to get a key programmed to the car unless you find a independent shop that was willing to spend the money on VIDA and the ability to download software
