I purchased a three day subscription to vida to get some keys programmed and the remote start installed. I installed the remote start without issue. However, I'm not sure what software to select to program the key fob. I selected "Master Key Application." After purchasing the "Master Key App," the vehicle starts with the new keys. However, I was not prompted for the security codes to program the key fob. Does anyone know what other software I select? None of the software selections available stand out. Thank you

 

You selected the right one. You don't program codes manually on that car.

 

How did you get a 3 day subscription to VIDA?

The dealer wants $500 to program my key fob remote start. Lived without it for a long time and won't be paying $500 for a computer hookup.

 

It's not just a computer hook up. Even with a 3 day subscription you still have to pay for the software.

 

I thought there had to be more to it than just a subscription.

I am never comfortable updating software on my computer let alone on my car.

"You'll need an active VIDA subscription though, which will cost you about $140 for a 3 day subscription. On top of that, you have to pay between $15-30 for each download you make. This is all done via Volvo and their independent workshop site, Volvo Tech Info. You cannot buy software independently on other sites, like the one you mentioned... It will not work. Their prices on software also may not be accurate.

This process isn't super complex, but it's not trivial either. I'd suggest you start by reading the VIDA training documents on the "volvotechinfo.com" website. The ordering is done via VIDA itself and not an external website.

Not sure where that's from but its not entirely accurate with regards to remote start. The software is much more than $30. I think it's around $300. Plus an hour of labor which is why the total is around $500.

 

That was from an XC site and I think it was saying that each dowload (whatever that means) costs $30. Maybe each download is like a printer driver for the computer and each driver would be $30????

My quote was mostly to say that updating isn't something I'd feel comfortable with doing.

On the Subaru list they do a lot of updates to the head units and download those updates. Hooking up the battery to a charger and the entire protocol. I never tried it because I didn't feel comfortable with doing it.

 

An hour on a computer is a very long time. Someone is making a mountain of money out of this.

 

ES6T is a very helpful member and has helped me out plenty of times. He is just relating what the shop says and doesn't set the rates or rules.

My comment was an observation, not a criticism of the poster. I do feel that manufacturers of complex devices have an obligation to make maintenance information reasonably available and not try to create a monopoly forcing buyers to use only their dealerships for repair. My conclusion, looking at the numbers in this thread, is that is exactly what Volvo is attempting to do. My response? (voiced elsewhere in this forum) - My current Volvo (2015.5 V60 T5) will be my last.
