Amazing how fluid-centric these cars are
My wife is now driving a new to us, 2007 V50. It is a car that is a 9.9 out of 10 car. I looked long and hard to find any flaw on it.
So the S60 is now my daily driver. About 23,000 miles ago I did a 5 quart flush with 3309 fluid. I wasn't happy with the shift back then and the flush took care of it.
Now that I have the car again, yesterday while driving, I thought that I felt a bit of shift flare. I also was noticing that while backing up our driveway, which is a hill, things didn't feel 100% correct.
This morning I decided to do a bit of flushing. I didn't have much time and only did a remove a quart - replace a quart. The stuff I removed wasn't nice and pink but it wasn't black. Maybe light purple?
After doing just one quart I swear I could feel a difference.
Last time I did the flush-restore of 5 quarts was over a two week period. I have 6 remaining quarts and will do a little bit at a time flush-restore over the next few weeks.
Gotta keep those transmission solenoids happy and clean!

I agree that sooner is better.

You can go by the written maintenance schedules from Volvo and participate in the marketing program. The marketing program? Yes Grasshopper. It is the program that your transmission dies and you need to purchase another car.
I guess we can be happy that we even have a dipstick. So many new cars have no dipstick making it very hard to take a quick look / smell of the ATF fluid. The new way is to believe that ATF fluid that is in your vehicle will last for ?????????
