Default what are my performance options? easy power from these cars?

So im new to volvos, im a VW junkie
but for the next month or so ll be driving my dads 2000 s40, and it isnt really in the BEST shape

so im gonna do my best to fix it up and maybe get a little pep out of it

i havent seen much for ECU upgrades, or any type of intake

could i throw a cone filter on it'?
or cut the stock airbox?
and since i havent really seen any eproms or anything, how would it fair with a boost controller an maybe a few extra psi?

thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. Please be sure to take a look at both of these links in depth.

1. Do not use a MBC. I do believe the s40's are on the ME7 system like other 1999+ Volvo models and ME7 doesn't like MBC's.

2. You can install a performance panel filter like a K&N and be real good. Or you could purchase a short ram intake kit like EST (EuroSportTuning) sells. Seen below.

Or get the BMC CDA that Viva Performance sells. Shown below. You might have to make this one fit like a lot of people have.

3. You can also get more ponies by upgrading the exhaust system. EST (EuroSportTuning) provides a couple catback systems and a downpipe option as well. Out of the two you will see the most gains with the downpipe. Links below.

Viva Performance also sells a catback system and a downpipe as well. Links below.

4. As far as ECU upgrade go all I can find is EVOLVE. It seems no one else has anything for the 2000 s40's. Link below.

http://www.evolvecars.com/site/index...20,249,0,0,1,0

I know I linked you to the 2004.5 and above but if you check where it says ORDER ONLINE (SELECT). You can clearly see that there are some ECU upgrades for the 2000-02 models, which is you.

Also I would contact IPD USA and see what they can do for you and I would also contact Viva Performance which sells RICA and see if there is anything for you and also BSR PPC which is sold by EST (EuroSportTuning). Oh you may want to check out SpeedTuning USA, Oliver might have an ECU solution for you too. Or even Upsolute for that matter.

Also I hope you have a big wallet, tuning a Volvo even slightly isn't cheap. Expect big bucks to be spent.

for tuning on S40's go to s40concepts.net.
Most of us S40 guys have manual boost controllers, they work fine just dont over boost unless you are doing the necessary upgrades. If you want to know more email me at joseph.mcguinness@selective.com and be sure to put something in the subject line.
