Does an S60 turn off if leaking alot of oil?
My newly 16 year old daughter was driving a 2005 S60 when it died on her. Thank goodness for cell phones--she called and I grabbed the gas can only to discover she wasn't out of gas. But the car wouldn't start. There was an oil can lit up on the dashboard, so I checked her oil and it was very low. So I bought oil, filled her up, went to get gas in my car and came back. Not only would it not start, there was a fresh puddle of oil under the car--front right--and she was low on oil when I checked again. I had the car towed home because I didn't want to tow to the dealer and have them see 1) towed car and 2) female. (ka-ching, ka-ching) I am not crazy about the volvo dealership and am out of warranty.
Do volvos turn off when low on oil to protect themselves like some tools do? Or is my engine gone? Should I have a mobile mechanic diagnose the problem so i can call around and get prices before I tow? It was alot of oil so a main seal? It leaks while stopped, so... I don't know. I am praying she ran over a curb and cracked the oil pan but she says she never hit anything.

I would imagine that if the PCM gets a low/no oil pressure input, that it will shut the engine off. GM vehicles have done this for the past 20+ years. If you have engine oil coming from the right front area, that could be a front crank seal that has failed, or depending on what all else is up there, turbo oil lines, engine oil cooler, and things of that nature could be up there.
