Default Donut spare and box does not fit!

I had a blowout on my 2016 V60 T5 last week while On vacation. Of course the car did not have a spare, it had a fix a flat kit which did not work. So I ordered a doughnut and box to store the donut in the back of my Volvo. I received it today and tried to install it, it fit beautifully but then when I tried to lay the hinged floor of my wagon down, the hinged floor won’t go flush against the top of the spare. The hinged floor sticks up about 3 inches!

So in order to make it all fit correct do I need to buy a new hinged floor for my Volvo?

I was wondering if I could simply Saw off a rib on the bottom of the floor that seems to be hitting the tire, it seems to be made out of some sort of plastic. Another option that I’m currently using is I simply took out the box And laid the donut down in the metal bottom of my Volvo, underneath the hinged floor. There’s a depression where it fits pretty good and doesn’t seem to want to move. I stored all the tools up behind the spare towards the backseat, but that seems to be a little more movable. Anyhow now the hinged floor will sit flat. There are some wires and electronics back there, I’m worried that if the tire or tools do shift they could screw up the electronics back there. Do you think this is safe to leave for the long run? Thanks!

You are encountering a problem because the tray that will accommodate the spare will not fit if the load area floor is one that incorporates a "bag holder" function. the alternate floor without that is flat underneath. Several choices - allow Volvo to extort several $100's because of their misguided engineering, chop off the plastic bit and glue the resultant loose bit in place or discard the Volvo tire carrier and do what I did faced with the same problem: I bought a Volvo temp spare (Ebay) which came with the foam insert carrying jack & lug wrench. I cut the existing lower insert to fit the tire, position the cut so that the center of the foam insert would correspond to the existing threaded attachment on the trunk floor and fit snugly around the tire. As a precaution, I protected the electrical bits with thin pieces of foam held down with duct tape. A long threaded rod and a nut + large washer hold the spare assembly down and it clears the underside of the of the load floor.

It is my opinion that substituting a "fix-a-flat" can of goop and a pump is an atrocious kluge. (I did keep the pump, convenient for topping up a tire gone a bit soft)

Pretorien, thanks, your suggestion of “ I cut the existing lower insert to fit the tire...”. That gave me an idea. Using my existing insert for the fix a flat kit, I cut a space for my donut tire, and now my jack and lug wrench and tire all fit underneath my bag holder floor, with the wires all covered by the insert. I just returned the $275 new box insert and foam insert tool holders. That’s a load off my mind!
