2002 S60 2.4L and the fan continues to run until the battery dies out. So I disconnected the power harness to the fan motor and the fan stops running. After a few days of sitting in the garage, cold engine, the fan begins to run as soon as I plug in the power harness without the key, no check engine lights. what's going on? I'm guessing it's the fan relay or temp sensor. I tried to find both and I can't find it. Can someone help me locate these items? Anybody with similar experience? Thanks!

The cooling fan is bad.
At one time there was a recall on the fans.
When you look at it does it have a crome box inline with the wiring or is it a black box?

The fan has a chrome box inline. I checked the recalls and it looks like there is a recall for 1999-2001 S60 fan assemblies... however mine is a 2002 S60.

 

You also have the new style fan anyway. That bad part is if it is bad you will need to pay for a replacement.

They are somewhat common to go bad.

 

So in the S60, there is no separate temp sensor or relay? All one piece on the fan assembly?

 

Yes thats how they set it up.

There is a temp sensor seperate but the check engine light would be on and the car would usually run like crap if it was bad.

The cooling fans are a pretty poor design.
