Question Instrument Cluster Clock and Trip OD issues

I've lurked here for about a year getting good ideas and now have a question that I haven't seen an answer for. I have a 2003 S60 2.5T AWD. Randomly the clock will just start moving, advancing or retarding time. Sometimes a sharp rap on the dash will stop it, but not always. Also the Trip OD will not always take a reset, or switch between T1 and T2. Usually when it's not working I'll get a beep a few seconds after I take my finger off the button. These problems started about 10K miles ago after a detail job.

I've actually located a used instrument cluster on line but before I buy I'd like advice if the problem is in the instrument cluster or somewhere external to it and effecting the instrument cluster operation.

Love the car and plan on keeping it until it dies.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe it is a cluster problem.
But you may have problems installing a used one. It is actually a computer.
I think some have installed a used one and not had problems. But I think other have had problems.

Default Removal a challenge?

I've already removed the cluster once to try electrical contact cleaner on the clock and Trip OD contacts..did not help. Actually removing the cluster was pretty easy. Is your concern more about the replacement unit integrating with the onboard car computer?

Default Any differences between clusters for same year

I'm about ready to order the used cluster..

Are there any differences between clusters for an 2003 S60 that I should check out first?

Default re[laced the cluster

put in the used cluster purchased on ebay and all now works

found out that the mileage info is held in the cluster and is now different than what the car had. need to figure out how to solve that one now.

Glad it is working but I doubt there is a way to change the milage. Usually with a new one it is a one shot deal to program the milage.
