Default lowbeam bulb failure 2005 S60

Started receiving a "lowbeam bulb failure" message today for the drivers side headlight on my 2005 S60 2.5t AWD Volvo. When I start the engine the lowbeam bulb comes on for about 10 seconds and then goes out. There are no problems with the highbeam on the drivers side or the low and highbeams on the passenger side. If i have the ignition switch in the number 2 position without the engine on the lowbeam on the drivers side works fine. Its only when i turn the engine on that the lowbeam on the drivers side only works for a few seconds.

As a strange side note if i turn the engine on and then turn the A/C up high right away the lowbeam on the drivers side stays on. Seems funny that there would be a connection between that and the lowbeam staying on but i am scratching my head at this point. I start the car with the headlights in the 0 position.

any ideas what the problem might be?
