Default Remove 30784310 Retainer, Window lift mechanism 2012 S60

Hello,

My exterior
door door
handle of my 2012 S60 does not open the door so I am trying to find the cause. The interior works fine. I took off the
door door
panelby removing the two screws and and popping off the clips. I cannot remove the black plastic interior
panel panel
- in the Volvo parts list it is 30784310 Retainer, window lift mechanism. I removed a series of screws surrounding the panel but I cannot remove it. It moves a bit and it does not appear to have any adhesive holding it. Is there something else that need to be removed?

Thanks,

Frank

I also am trying to remove the black plastic looking inner door panel. It's like it's held on with 2 screws coming from the other side. I thought perhaps something from behind the outer door handle? Anyone ever find the solution? Trying to replace door lock actuator.

Hello Steve,

The last step as I understand it requires removing the exterior door handle. I followed the instructions in the attached document since the procedure is similar but I cannot get the door handle to come off. I have been told that on a S60 you should turn the screw that holds the lock 4 times versus the 8 in this document. I was able to remove the lock part but when I pull on the handle it does not detach.

I removed the side black cover and loosened the screw. The lock was loose but I didn't go any further because I was afraid the screw that held it would fall down into the door. So you never got it out? Why do things have to be so complicated. I'm trying to replace my door actuator because my front door stopped locking with the Key FOB. All the other doors lock fine. I'm actually planning to sell the car and get a truck and wanted to fix the few things I knew that were wrong with the car.

I will try to get the door handle out again tomorrow.

Thanks for you help Frank. Ill let you know.

Steve

I was able to remove the lock after backing out the screw a little more than 4 turns but cannot get the door handle to come off. I pulled on it pretty hard and wiggled it but with no luck.

I know this is a zombie, but it may help people, so here:

If anyone ever sees this and needs help, I figured it out. Follow the guide in the link posted above. It has very little written instructions and can be confusing. I think I know where people went wrong.

Once you remove the door panel, follow the instructions by inserting a T-25 bit into the hole in the side of the door. Here’s where I think people went wrong: you have to pull the door handle out while loosening the screw. It is indeed 8 full rotations, not the 4 someone said above (at least on my ‘12 S60). Don’t worry, this screw cannot be loosened to the point of falling into the door. Once you do that, remove the little piece of molding right next to the door handle (this would be the lock on the drivers door, I did passengers). That has to come off before the door handle will come off. Then, you pull the rear side of the door handle out (mine had to be slid towards the rear then it came out). I think sliding it to the rear is key, as is holding the door handle out while loosening the screw.

Also, I’m not sure if anyone realized that you must remove the window from the tracks inside the panel. That has to be done to remove the inner door skin. The instructions show it, but it is super unclear. To accomplish this, pop the two little round rubber covers out of the inner door skin to view the window tracks. Once you see them, roll the window down to about halfway. Around halfway, you will see a little plastic piece appear in the hole (one in each hole). Towards the top of the plastic piece, you will see a little button that engages into a hole in the glass. While pulling up on the window with one hand, use a screwdriver or something to push in the rear button, then the front (on my car it was way easier to do the rear first). You can then slide the window up (by hand) and tape it up to the door frame.

Next, remove the three screws on the side of the door that hold in the lock (don’t worry, it can’t fall in either), and you’re in business! Slide the inner door skin towards the front and out. It can be tricky to get out, but it will come. There’s a lot of crap mounted to the back of it.

I hope this helps. You guys helped me immensely. Even though y’all didn’t get it, the guide got me there after about 30-45 minutes of staring and thinking. The thing that got me was not knowing how to detach the window from the tracks. I figured it had to be done, but the guide is not clear about it. It all goes back together the same and is easy.

Oh, by the way, the guide shows a cable attached to the FRONT of the door handle when you remove it. Mine had no such cable. Not sure what that’s about, because mine operates from the rear, not the front. The front is just a pivot point. Good luck!
