Default Shock/Strut Question

My shocks make a lot of noise when I'm going over bumps in the road. Its a real hollow sound almost like hitting two plastic cups together. My question is are my shocks somehow loose or something or are they bad. My car isn't bouncy or springy and it rides the same as it did before it made these noises. To me it sounds like its coming from all over. I don't have a lot of money right now and frankly after spending a ton on tires, tirerods, and an ECU problem I really don't want to. Is this something that I could possibly fix myself...I change my own oil.. 2001 Volvo S60 Base.

I've got no answers for you but it seems like its not an easy fix. Anyone recommend struts that are a good deal? Brand?

Before you spend a lot of money, check and see if the noise is coming from the strut hitting the inner fender wall. An easy way to check is to just reach in a shake the strut back and forth. The sound will not be exactly the same, but it should be close enough to tell if that's it.
