Default should i call my lawyer??

hi everyone,

left my 02 volvo s60 to a local shop for an oil change and after getting it back the car does not go into 3rd gear. it shows os on the manual mode but it does not engage it just revs. i move to forth with the manual option and it works.

I asked the shop to put Mobile ATF 3309 as they should.
They stated they are auto-trannys experts but i'm not sure if they know what they are doing especially with this tranny being so sensitive to oild and flushes.

so i though i just need to reset the computer and do the driving cycle. The shop offered to take it to Volvo and volvo said: tranny is bad, they cannot reset anything, the command module is busted and even if they did change it there would be no guarantee it would work.

this is a 1 year old tranny just out of warranty with 20.000KM on it but i have no records if the people that changed it/rebuilt it knew what they were doing.

when i left the car for the oil change it had the park to reverse and drive bumb when parking wich it always had and very rarely it would hesitate when changing to 4th.
still the car was very much drivable now it's wasted with no 3rd gear.

so did the local shop screwed up my tranny? or does an oil change show a fauly tranny that couldn't be noticed with the old oil?
I drove it around for 3 days after the oil change as the shop said it wouldn't hurt it with no 3rd gear.

I think maybe they put to much or too litle oil in it.
what's the correct amount?
and could that destroy my tranny or was it already gone and i didn't know it?

now i get the Tranmission needs service code which before i didn't. this is exactly after Volvo put it on the computer to check for failures.

Some advice on this would be very much appreciated i'm pretty desperate.

thanks!!

Cristian

YES, call your lawyer.

Most likely they refilled the tranny by removing the large 23mm bolt on top of the tranny. That is not the refill port. That bolt anchors a servo band that allows the car to shift upwards to 4th gear.

By removing the bolt that servo band is now inoperative, therefore no 4th gear.

You need to have the car towed to facility that knows volvo transmissions and if I am correct and that is the problem, the shop has to pay to fix the problem.

By the way, you should have ask them when you dropped the car, if they knew where the dipstick for the tranny was.

so where is the correct bolt?

i'm thinking of getting them to explain what they did and prove they were wrong.
according to them they worked on auto trannys before but don't think they did so on this one.

and what's the correct amount of oild they should have used?

The transmission is refilled through the dipstick tube only.
