My wife's 07 S60 sunroof started making a noise similar to a plastic gear skipping teeth accompanied with the sunroof not wanting to open all the way. Additionally when it would close, it would not sit flush in one corner and you could hear the wind noise.

I found a write up on removing the sunroof so I did last night and here is what I found. On both sides in the track of the sliders was these two broken plastic half-moon pieces. I could not find out where they came from, but once I put it all back together everything has worked perfectly. I think these pieces were jamming the sliders when I was trying to open the roof.

I have no idea where the two pieces came from, but i did notice damage to each of the two accordion pieces at the exact same location. Did these two plastic pieces come off the accordions and if so, what is their purpose in life? Are they required to were I should think about replacing the two accordion pieces.

I've had the same problem with my S60. My accordions ripped from the sunroof, though, so they don't go up and down with the sunroof. I'm pretty sure mine isn't missing those parts, however. Hope there's some replies with solutions! I'd love to take out my sunroof as you did; I'll have to look for that thread.

For the great sunroof info. Once the weather gets a bit warmer to work on it I'm gonna try and fix it.

 

I have a 97 S90 and my sunroof won't come open. It tilts up in the rear like its supposed too. Push the button to open and makes a noise like it is going to open but nothing.
