Default Trade in value quagmire

What would be a good trade in value for a clean 01 S60 2.4T? It has 78K miles. The range is $4800 to $8550 on the online guides and on e-bay they are going for around 7K. I was offered $6K at the Volvo dealer today and they would not budge. I don't know what the auction value in the black book is but I was taxed at $7K for road tax this month.

I personally don't know why the resale value of these cars are that of aHyundai, but yeah that sounds about right. You'll never geta goodvalue from a trade in. If you've got time to sit onit, I'd sell it privately. I'd also spend $100 to tint the windows and $100 on a cheap bazookapowered subwoofer and try to get $8k. Teens seem to forget about scratches dents or a slightly inflated price tag whenit has afew extra options.

Check www.autotrader.com to see what others in your area are selling them for and what you have to compete with.

Yeah in my neck of the woods the 01-02 S60's go for $11K+ for private sales. It is weird that a buddy of mine traded in his 05 Focus ZX4 (bare bone) for $8200. Mind boggling why Volvos are low-balled at Volvo dealers compared to other places including Carmax. I think I will keep the car as there is nothing wrong with it. I hate the whole car buying experience but it is fun to haggle with them hehe
