Default V60 Sunroof Explodes

While driving my wife's 2016 Volvo V60 on the Interstate at 65-70 mph I heard a loud sound, like a gunshot, and then glass shards started raining over my head. Scared the heck out of me and was glad my wife wasn't driving as she most likely would have panicked and caused a crash involving other vehicles. I pulled the car off the next exit and got out of the car expecting to see evidence of something hitting the roof....there was none. In fact, all remaining glass in the roof exploded upward to the sky and glass shards sprayed across the roof of the car damaging the paint. The glass remaining in the sunroof was totally shattered. If I would have had the sunroof shade closed, at least it would have kept the glass from coming into the car and hitting me.

The car was flat beaded to my Volvo dealer and they said they had never seen anything like this on a Volvo before. Then they said it happened to a girl's 2010 Volvo also. They say they have no idea what caused this, but if you search the internet, you see instances of this happening to other makes with sunroofs.

The sunroof has been replaced and now is in the body shop having the roof repainted.

Pretty scary experience I neither I nor my wife care to drive this vehicle anymore. Volvo markets their vehicles based upon safety, but design issues like this are likely to cause vehicle accidents.

Anyone else have this issue?
