Default What now?

Yet another oddity with my '01 T5. It's only done this a few times now and only does so when hot, or so it seems. First of all, when coasting to a stop I can see the RPM dropping very low. Then, when stopped, the RPM will be pretty erratic, dropping down to as low as 300 RPM then going back up. Also, when cruising, I can feel the car sort of cutting out.

On the way home it only did this at one stop light then was fine the rest of the way home. It's shifting fine too. No codes or anything. Any clues whatsoever?

Sounds like another ETM problem. Like tech said, clean the throttle unit. Does the ETM have the latest software update?

Great. You know, I'm not sure on the software for it. I might take it to the dealership this week and find out.

Thanks for the tips.

It did it again tonight, pretty bad too. This time while driving I noticed the cruise control stopped working. I had it on and it just went out and wouldn't come back.

Also, I notice while it's in an episode, as I let off and on the throttle while driving, I feel the car kind of "jerk." Best way to compare it is letting off the gas feels like putting it in neutral and getting back on the gas feels like putting it back in drive.

I get the feeling it's going to be more than a throttle body cleaning...

Couldn't be a bad turbo could it???

I doubt turbo try cleaning the throttle first then go from there. The cruise shut off because there is codes somewhere.

Dealership says the car is fixed. They cleaned the throttle body and updated the ETM software free of charge as part of the campaign. They also said the turbo control valve has gone bad which perhaps explains why it wouldn't boost yesterday. Also that three of the ignition coils have rotting insulation and need replaced. I will do that myself.

Better news than I expected at least!

I apologize for repetitive posting on the issue, but it's never over...

They didn't replace the ETM, just cleaned it and the throttle body and test drove the heck out of it. Service adviser told me the Volvo rep wouldn't warranty my ETM unless I replaced my transmission due to harsh down shifts. Basically there has to be NOTHING else wrong with the car. What a joke.

Yes sir, I agree. This is my last post-Ford Volvo. What happened to the old days?

So do you think this is it for me? Wouldn't do any good to call up Volvo myself and plead a case? (i actually lol at the thought of it...)
