Mine does the same thing, a short squirt of WD-40 using the little tube to get it behind the button works well.

I went to the mechanic and I just bought a new ****. It was becoming dangerously annoying. Cost? $75.00, labor included.

Thanks, Thought I'd have a bigger problem. Liquid Wrench worked for me. I guess gunk freezes even plastic switches

Come on, dude... are you serious?

Buy a can of WD-40 with the little red hose. $4.29

Tear a paper towel off the dispenser by the kitchen sink. $0.06

Gently spray a small amount of WD-40 into the button hinge area by inserting the little red hose in the space created by pushing the button all the way into the shift lever. Once you're done spraying, press the button and release, press and release.

Done. Spend the rest of your money on some beer like the rest of us low-brow folk.
