Default Blower fan code

Hey guys,
I had a Volvo shop run a check on my 2000 S70 SE and they got back a code on my blower fan. They said it is a preliminary code and that the blower fan will go out at some point, then quoted me $500 to replace it. A few questions here:
1) Is there anything I can do maintenance wise to prevent the fan from going out?
2) Is there any good reason to replace it before it does go out since it works perfectly right now?
3) Is this really a $500 job?

thanks,
Mark

Not much you can do to help it.
It might be a good idea to relpace before it goes out things tend to go bad at the wrong time.

I would do the resistor and motor at the same time. If you can use a screwdriver and some sockets you can replace it yourself.
