Default To Change or not to Change, that is the Question

I've read a lot of the posts regarding changing the tranny fluid. I have a '99 S70 (4 speed auto) that I just got with 160k on it. It has had all the regularly scheduled maintenance up to now according to dealer records, but I don't know if that includes tranny flushes. The fluid is quite brown but does not smell burnt.

I gather that I should do the "passive flush" if anything, but I am concerned about the "loose dirt" issue. Any advice? To flush or not to flush?

I don't have shifting problems per se, but it does do a hard downshift going up slight inclines into 4th gear.

Have a reputable Volvo mechanic do it and have them put Volvo recommendedfluid back in. That will take all the guess work out of the equation.
