Default Check Engine Light with Winter Drive mode light

So I went outside to start my car up tonight and when I started it my Winter Drive arrow was blinking. My car is always in Economy mode. The lights on the S-E-W module were blinking from E to W. Then when I put the car into drive the Check Engine light came on and stayed on and the blinking also continued.

I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of problem I may be having.

It felt to shift fine as I drove along and I didn't smell anything unusual as I drove.

Any help is always appreciated.

Thank you!!

Adam

You need to have the transmission codes pulled.

It could be alot of things. Yes someone needs to read the tranny codes with a scanner.
The average scanner will not read them either.

99 out of 100 it is a bad PNP switch.
To temporarily clean it, row the shifter back and forth rather quickly about 20 times, engine ON, (brake ON).
Most of the time this temporarily cleans the contacts.
If this works for you you need to bring it to your mechanic for a new PNP switch, about a two hour+ job.
BTW, you don't need a scanner, this IS your problem and the 1st thing to try.
Also check the fluid, if dirty, either flush the trans or do a drain and fill, twice.
If it isn't, you will need a new transmission!!!!!

I tried shifting the Car from P-L about 15-20 times and that had no effect on the light. When I drive the car it seems to feel like it's shifting just as it did before the light came on. Also if it is the PNP is it okay to do some light driving on for the next few days before getting it fixed?

That should be fine as long as it is using all the gears.
If it keeps starting off in 3rd gear then I would not drive it.
