Default door locks - 98 s70 glt

1998 s70 glt

I have looked through some of the previous posts and see that it is common for the door lock to stop working properly. I guess they just do not lock anymore, regaurdless of the lock posts position. Does anyone know what causes it? I took out the mechanism and messed around with it for awhile. Now instead of just not locking, it stays locked from the outside although I can still open it from the inside. Is it possible to fix it instead of spending $130? (Not that it matters, but it seems like it is more common on the passenger side, any reason?)

Also, my power door locks and keyless entry do not work. I am assuming the keyless entry will work once the power locks are fixed, does that seem right? The trunk lock still works off of the power door locks though. Any suggeestions of what or how to check for the specific problem? Any common problems?

-Thanks

well for starters you can take the door panel off and see what exactly is broken. I dont know much more than that.

You mean none but the trunk work from the switch?
Usually a plastic piece breaks in the lock assembly. So really it would be better to buy a new one.

That is correct. When I push the unlock button, the door locks do nothing. (although I do hear a click or some kind of noise) The trunk will open from the back without the key. Pushing the lock button does nothing to the doors, (and I can still hear the noise). Now the trunk will not open from the outside unless I use the key.

Is the plastic piece located on the outside of the mechanism? Im trying to figure out if I could fabricate something, because buying a new one would not be fun.

I feel ripped off. I just bought the car about a month ago, and have already put in about $600 into it and still have much more to repair. But its my own fault for not doing my research.

have you checked the door lock fuse(fuses in enginebay)? and the abttery in the remote? I fint it odd that they would all go out at the same time. Consider yourself lucky, I bought mine 5 monthes ago and have put well over $1000 into it.

These lock are a pretty poor design.
But what alot of people do wrong it lube the latch.
That is what destroys it. The lube messes up the micro switches and eats the plastic causing it to break.

The plastic piece is under the cover.

The owners manual does not seem to list a fuse for the power locks, so I checked them all. None of them to seem to be bad. I can hear a clicking noise and the trunk still works, so I dont think that its an issue of getting power. Even when I use the keyless entry, I still hear the clicking. I think the keyless entry is fine, just a matter of getting the locks to work. Since I just bought the car, and it already had a bunch of problems, Im thinking that the guy before me just neglected that too. I thought the registration expired in november, and it did but it was november of 06. And I just checked today, he had never replaced the fuel filter either. Anyway, about how long will these lock assemblys last? Its a 98 with 132k. Would they have failed on their own before this point?

As always, thanks for the help

never can tell wiht these parts, most of them dont just break at a certain time. My 98 volv has 211k on it and only my drivers side lock is down. Which doesnt matter cuz you cant see in the car with the tint anyways.....
