Default 98 S70 door locks

OK guys (and gals) H E L P!!!! Daughter's car is a 98 S70 which we just purchased. The keyless fobs are no where to be found, but when you unlock the doors (from the driver's door with a key), the ONLY one that will unlock, is the driver's door. You can lock (either with the key OR the button on the driver's door) the driver's door, and both back seat doors. The front passenger door will neither lock, or unlock. I have replaced the lock mechanism in that door for the THIRD time now in 2 weeks (just in case I had gotten bad units), and frankly..am sick of tearing off that door panel. I called the local dealer, and he tells me there is a module in the rearview mirror that goes "asleep" and has to be "re awakened" by some software that they have. A tech (I believe on here) has told me that the 98 model does NOT have that module. Anyway....how in blue blazes do I fix the front passenger door to work, and THEN..get all the doors to lock and unlock correctly? Again......H-E-L-P!!! Thanks!

Did I already reply to a post like this of yours?

I would check the door jam connection on the passenger side. There is a torxes screw you will need to loosen then turn the plastic part where the screw is to release the plug. See if any of the pins backed out of the plug.

THANKS!!! I will try that tomorrow! Will this have any effect on the rear doors, or just the door that is not locking at all? I guess what I am trying to ask, (rather ignorantly), is ...are they all sort of "married" together, or will the back doors be an independent problem? Thanks again, and pardon my ignorance. We have only gotten to be a "Volvo" household the last few months, but now have this one, an 02 S80, as well as a 94 850 and a 96 turbo 850. Love them all...just working out a few bugs. Thanks SO much for all your help!

I have seen them only affect one door and I have seen them mess the the entire system. One of the pins on the body side is what usually backs out some.

I cleaned the door jamb connections on the driver's and passenger's front doors, retightened, no change......

As a footnote, if it helps you, when you push the button from the driver's door, or from the passenger's door, you can hear the "clicking" of them in all four doors, like it is trying to work.

What do you suggest I try now?

Thanks!

Maybe the switches have dirty connections?

I know the switches go bad all the time.

OH...one other item of note...when you push the lock/unlock buttons from either the driver's or passenger's door, as I stated above you can hear a "clicking" noise, like they are trying to work. Problem is....after you do that 4 to 6 times....the switch doesn't do anything. You can let it sit for awhile, go back, and do it again. It's like it gets......."tired"....or something...I know that sounds weird...but this is a weird deal, too! Ha!

Would you just pull the switches (without pulling the door panels) and replace both of them then?

That is normal the system is shutting down due to overload.

If the switches were replaced with aftermarket ones I have seen them do the same thing.

You can remove them without removing the door panel. Use a hook tool and slide it in there and pull the switch out.

So you would recommend replacing both door switches with genuine Volvo switches at this point?

Yes but it would be nice if you could find a tester one to try though to see if it will actually fix it.

I am certainly not a tech, but what you are saying sounds like the only logical thing to do, since the connections are good on the jamb, and obviously there is something going on at the door locks or you couldn't hear any "click" noises. That passenger front door situation is really confusing though, seeing as how it seems that nothingis making the darned thing lock. Any other thoughts before I go buy two new switches?
