Default Fuel Smell after Refueling

Every time i fill up my gas tank, the smell of gasoline enters the cabin and lingers for a day or two. Why is this happening? How do i fix the problem?

Not totally sure what the problem might be, but when I started smelling fuel in my S70, I did two things:

1.) Replace the fuel injector seals. (Pretty easy job - took me all of 20-30 minutes.)

2.) Replace the fuel filter. This is probably unnecessary, but I say you might as well, since you're already replacing the injector seals. Seal the deal and improve gas efficiency.

Let me know if that works for you. If you want, I've got some photos from the fuel injector seal job that I can post here.

Not topping off; stop when pump shuts off. I replaced fuel filter already.

You smell gas inside the car, after refueling. I'll bet someone changed the fuel pump and didn't get the gasket to seat correctly, and fuel is seeping out, or one of the lines is cracked near the pump. Pull off the plate covering the pump next time you refuel, and see what you see. The pump cover is accessible from under the trunk carpeting.

We are having the same problem with our '98 S70. The fuel pump has not been touched nor has any other part of the fuel system. This only happens after refueling and only lasts for a couple of days. The tank is not "topped off" and nothing has changed in the tank refueling process from years past. Any ideas now.....I have been wondering about the evaporative cannister system.

I would still ck under the fuel pump access cover like Carrots mentioned; fuel leak might be right there.

After that, then yeah, ck out the integrity of the evap system for leaks; usually that will set a code... any running issues?
