Default Ignition column/switch replacement

i have a glt s70 and today i stuck my key in the ignition but it wouldn't proceed past the I position and remained locked. I tried jiggling it around in hopes that it would ignite but it didn't it remains locked. I'm not sure whether its the whole ignition column or just the switch ( if they are the same im sorry for my ignorance). If so, is there a site where there is a diagram showing how to do this and if there is is it difficult? or would it just be worth it to have a professional do it and the costs of labor and parts? thanx

Try one of your spare keys first.

Usually the lock cylinder assembly is bad when this happens.

i think its the ignition switch..instead of getting a stock switch could i just bypass getting the shipped parts from the dealer and just get a push start one and would that work?

You might but remember your car has an immoblizer.
Also how would you lock and unlock the steering wheel?

I would reccomend replacing it with the proper parts.
