Default O2 codes?

Hello Collective enthusiasts,

I was driving happily down the road tonight thinking, It's been a while since I've had to do anything to the car? Then wouldn't you know it the check engine light came on! Pulled the codes and got P0133 and P0422.

Does anyone have the code list? Thought I book marked it somewhere but can't find it. Also any thoughts on those codes? Car runs great, no weird problems or sounds with the engine. Although I did hear a hissing noise coming from the rear bumper the other day but I think that's unrelated.

Thanks, Greg

No idea's gang?
I guess I'm going to the pros for this one.
Just hate paying that diagnostic fee.

Google is your friend...

OBD-II Trouble Code: P0133 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank1, Sensor1)

P0422 Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Most likely need both O2 sensors; go with OEM (not aftermkt, not OE equiv) or more than likely you will be doing it again.

That's going to run you over $300 for the pair. If you're low on fund-age you could try (saving you the post rspi..) the junk yard, but that's crap shoot IMO.

Of course you will spend way more than that at the stealer..

Yeah I did check Google for the codes, came up with quite a bit.

Gas mileage is the only reason I have not replaced the O2's senors yet.
Seems like nothing is changed I still get 20-22MPG ?

I've been smelling what I think is exhaust or oil in the cabin and think there might be a small leak causing one of the codes. Anyone know a good way to check for exhaust leaks? Maybe some WD-40 or a rag over the tail pipe.

Ok so just to follow up.
After reading a number of articles about these codes I found conflicting answers.
The O2 sensor many times is the fall guy for a lot of other problems.

However in my records (200k+) there is no mention of it ever being replaced.
So in this case I replaced the front o2 sensor and spark plugs.
To my surprise the check engine light went off even before clearing the codes.

Thanks to all,
Greg
