Only Starts on Carb cleaner spray but shuts off
2000 Volvo s70 v5 2.4 turbo Sweden model
Gas gauge shows 1/4 tank of gas. Will start and run on carb cleaner but fuel pump still comes on when turning the key. Car has been sitting. PO abandoned this car and now im trying to get it running to drive. Car did run when PO last started it. Last week replaced fuel pump with same results as before.

I suggest you determine whether or not the fuel injectors are squirting. They make a light for this, called here a "noid" light. Before you buy that, determine whether or not the injectors have power at all. That's easy. Can you test fuel pressure? That might also be of interest, but I'd be a bit surprised if you didn't have any. It's just always a good practice.
In the USA, the volvo fuel pressure test connections are the same size as a tire. I don't know what those threads are, but anyway, it's like a tire. Over here, when you buy a fuel pressure gauge, it'll fit that. You could use a tire gauge and that'll actually work. The injectors are hidden under an aluminum extrusion there right on top of the intake manifold that pops off with no fasteners. It comes off in a way that you don't really expect it to. You just pull in the right place and it'll come off.
Also, if you're spraying carb cleaner in, are you not connected to the MAF anymore? If you take the intake piping apart, you won't have any mass airflow reading. If you sprayed it upstream of the MAF, then you're probably okay there.

And how did they come to that conclusion? I have rarely heard of an S70 ECM failing. The electronic throttle body is known for having issues but that is not a huge deal. From your description you definitely have a fuel delivery or throttle issue. If it starts on starting fluid, then the spark and timing are correct.
Autozone etc will "rent" a fuel pressure sensor or you can find one fairly cheap at Harbor Freight. The pressure sensor attaches to a shrader valve (ie same as a tire) on the end of the fuel rail (look on the driver's side). I'd look for something in the 40 PSI range. As to the injectors, you may have an injector relay that can go bad (on the 850s they are up on the shroud by the radiator - look around if the s70 still uses that design) If it starts on a spray you have spark so this looks like a fuel pressure/injector issue. So check the injector relay, check fuses, check pressure at the rail, check for signal at the injector as your main tests. Also search Youtube for some RobertDIY videos. he does have one for measuring fuel pressure and testing injectors

Yes, there are places that can repair them at a reasonable cost.....Just do a google search. These cars are not junk, it is not unheard of to get 300,000 to 400,000 miles out of them if they are maintained properly. First things first, put it all back together if it is not together. Second, before throwing parts at it, is the check engine light on? If so there are diagnostic codes set that will help determine the problem. Do you have a code reader to read the codes......if so, read what they are and post them here and we can help.

Check engine light is irrelevant. We got no way to know whether it's on or off on a non-running car.
It is what it is. If it has compression, then maybe 10 cents would fix it if we knew what to spend 10 cents on. On the earlier ones, about half the time you could push wires in on the main fuel injection relay for free and that alone would do it.

If you have fuel pressure and still suspect the fuel injection, Check out XEMODEX.com - they refurbish ETMs (electronic throttle mechanisms are used from 2000 models on). They should have some content for testing etc on their site. Forgot to ask - did you do an OBD2 scan to see if any codes are set?
