Please help with clunk over bumps!
My '99 S70 has developed a very annoying clunk over bumps. Not soft bumps like speedbumps, but pot holes and ruts and things like that. If I drive down a rut-filled road, it sounds like there's a drumroll from my right front wheel area.
I've replaced (on both sides) the lower control arms and bushings, the strut mount plates and bushings, and the lower and upper engine mounts. Sway bar bushings are visably good. End links are visably good. Tie rods are good. Ball joints are brand new with control arms. I'm at a loss and I'm tired of throwing parts at it. Any ideas?

Well on my dads car...the wheel bearings were so bad that you could push and pullthe wheeland there would be some play.
To check the wheel bearings while driving: I think that if you turn hard left it is the right wheel bearing and if you turn hard right it is the left wheel bearing.
Wait for (Moderator) Tech to drop in and see what he thinks.

RE: Please help with clunk over bumps!
Well the wheels are tight with no play while the car is in the air, and there are no symptoms while turning.
When I went under to have a second look, I missed a slightly loose end link that I caught by accident when I bumped into it. The left side is firm, and the right side is slightly loose, so I'll replace both (I like to replace things in pairs) and report back. Any other ideas that I can check while I'm replacing them would also be helpful!
Thanks for the help

RE: Please help with clunk over bumps!
Since you said the endlink was loose, that wasmost likeythe reason for the clunk. If you want to save money....try the car with just the fixed endlink and ifyouhave any doubt that the wheel bearings are good....go ahead and replace them.
I think you might have already replaced all the suspension parts that you need to.
Good luck
Edit: If a wheel bearing is bad...You will know when driving the car. If you have uneven tire wear. it is either the bad wheel bearing or a messed up alignment.
