RE: Is it possible to enable trip computer?
Well, looking through the front, I can tell the LCD has the symbols for all the functions. The car I got the switch from is a 2000 model, and I can get the cluster from it if I need to. I'd rather not use that cluster, though, because the donor car has 180,000 miles and mine has 98,000. Does my original cluster have what it needs if I can see the trip computer symbols?

My LCD is that size and shape, and if you shine a light on it, you can tell that the symbols for the trip computer are present (like MPG, Miles, etc. They obviously aren't turned on on my car, but the symbols are there, and the LCD is like the one in the pic.

RE: Is it possible to enable trip computer?
Hey, oddly enough I was wondering the same thing lastnight on my drive home. I too got a INFO switch from a 98' V70and was wondering if I could just plug and play. I think there might be a cable you have to plug into the back on the cluster (that may be unpluged??)or possibly change a position of some switch.?. I would like to know also if yours works, would be cool to have that work.. I'll try later when I get home today

Okay... so... I know I have the right cluster. Anyone with ideas on how to enable the functionality? and if it involves "going to the dealer," anyone know of a dealer within... say... 70 miles of Columbus, OH who will do it without overcharging on labor?

RE: Is it possible to enable trip computer?
Funny you should ask... I actually posted on here a while back about the same question on the same year and model S70. Turns out Volvo DID actually include the trip computer and ALL the functions in EVERY S70 however, while the switch is needed to operate it, you will have to get a software upgrade for your ECU in order to enable any of the enhanced functions. For this, Volvo charges a whopping 550$... or at least that was the quote I got from the dealer. The worst part of this is, ALL thats needed is a simple software upgrade; unfortunately, the software is owned by Volvo and they aren't willing to part with it for a small fee. If you happen to find a better quote, let me know as I would love to enable these functions too. Thanks

So what was the outcome? I also have the same issue with my 98 s70 GLT, so I'd be very interested in finding out whether anyone actually installed the info switch, and if so, how much for the upgrade more recently, is it still into the $500s? etc... Thanks

See the post: https://volvoforums.com/m_67469/tm.htm
I tried to detail this whole thing pretty for anybody considering upgrading the computer. I assume it would work for 850's too since they are so similar in design to the S70's.
