rebuilding ETS

rebuilding ETS
Does anyone have any ideas or experience about fixing an ETS without simply replacing it? I've already tried cleaning it, to no avail. And before I shell out $1k to replace it, I'd like to know if I can just fix whatever's wrong with it. While I'm new to volvo's, I'm guessing that this part is simply a 'throttle by wire' valve with an integrated idle air controller. If that's the case, then it would seem that only the 'idle air controller' functionality is comprimised, because the engine itself still runs fine when throttled. Anyone have anything helpful to offer?
Thanks,
Blase

RE: rebuilding ETS
I was hoping TECH would have responded to you..............he must have computer issues. At any rate, it is my understanding that the electronic throttle cannot be repaired. I have prophylactically had mine cleaned in an effort to extend its life. Currently there is a class action suit pending against Volvo for the Italian throttle body.

RE: rebuilding ETS
I wonder if someone out there has set up a business to repair them. There are clearly thousands out there failing @ $1000 a time.
An enterprising guy set up a web site to promote the repair of 1999 chevy truck ABS modules that were failing in thousands, just out of warranty of course.
The class action link is http://www.fazmiclaw.com/Volvo.html
My view is that all Volvo owners should play hard ball with their dealer if they have an ETS problem.
The evidence is clear in this case that they will respond to pressure.
