Default S70 misfiring, possible PCV problem?

Hey all,

I have a '98 S70 2.3L Turbo with some issues. about 6 months ago, I had a problem where at about 4k rpm the engine would start misfiring. I took it to a mechanic and they replaced the Flame trap PCV system. Now, the car has started missing again, and I have the tell tale signs of smoke coming out of the dipstick tube. The engine has also been eating about 2 quarts of oil a month. I don't want to replace the PCV again(for obvious reasons), but what else could it be? My first step is going to be cleaning the PTC and then replacing the spark plugs. Also, I found a hose disconnected in the engine compartment, it looks like it's connected to part of the intake system, but I'm not certain(not that familiar with Volvos). It looks like someone took a hacksaw to the tube, I have attached pictures below. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions.

You didn't mention the mileage on this car.

That kind of oil consumption would worry me (unless you drive 6K miles per month); either your mech did the PCV repair incorrectly (take it back there and have him explain the loose hose), or you have serious mechanical issues (i.e. time for an overhaul).

It's possible your turbo is eating that oil but don't think that would explain your excessive smoke out the dipstick.

Might want to get a 2nd opinion; find a good local indy tech that specializes in Volvo.

+1 On taking it back to the folks that did the PCV replacement. That looks like a old broken vent tube. The plastic gets pretty hard and can crack or break easy. The PCV system is a big job. Surely they did not just replace the oil box and leave the old vacuum lines.

Can't imagine the PCV system causing a misfire.
