Question Turbo going out?

I drove my 98 s70 yesterday and noticed that when I pulled into the drive there was smoke coming from under the hood and oil smell was coming into the interior. I popped the hood and there was a little smoke rolling out from turbo/exhaust area. I just redid the head and replaced all the pcv stuff while I was in there.
The car boosts well and drives like a dream, just smokes after a hard drive. I'm fairly confident it's turbo related because I can cold start the car and let it idle as long as I want to and it wont smoke. Only after taking it out and boosting.
I found a nice writeup from one of our overseas friends here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...50&postcount=1
After a little searching I also found the rebuild kit for $109 here: http://www.boostplanet.com/td04_rebuild.htm

Any thoughts on what else might be wrong, and if it's the turbo, any words of wisdom before I order the kit and pull the turbo?

Default well...

I spent this afternoon chasing down possibilities under the car. I found that my heater core hoses had a little drip and that the lower radiator hose had a small leak. I fixed those and got back under the car to see what else I could find. There is oil on the backside of the block, but it's spread out like it was sprayed on so it's hard to tell where it's coming from. The oil line to the turbo is dry, but I know I haven't changed those seals and where the hardline meets the block is brittle and shoddy looking. I'm going to replace those first and see where that takes me.

Just an update in case anyone searching runs across this. I replaced the oil return line gasket and o-ring, and it cleared up. When I pulled the return line the o-ring going into the block was Shot the F Out. Seems to have made all the difference in the world!

That O- ring is a pain in the ****. I replaced a head on a customer's car once, and she came back a couple days later with a really bad oil leak. As in, the WHOLE underside of the car was coated in oil. I KNOW I put the o- ring on, but when I pulled the tube, it wasn't there... Ended up giving her some free work to make up for it... I think I did her next oil change, and some other minor thing without charge...

That almost happened to me. I was having trouble getting the top gasket slid into place, so I pulled the tube back out and when i did the o-ring wasn't there, I almost shoved it into the block. Next time I do that I think I'll use some permatex to hold that gasket in place.
