my friend and i both want more power in my car...would taking the turbo off a junked say 96 850 and bolting it on to my 99 s70 work? it would be a move from a LPT to a HPT so would i have to do a lot of internal work like wastegate and such to get it work?

It should work Get the waste gate off the one in the junk yard and just install the entire assembly.
See how it runs after that you might have to do some work on the ECM.
