My wife's car has cool air coming from the drivers side and warm air from the passenger side when the air conditioner is on. I took it to a mechanic who said that there are doors that open and close when the A/C or heater is turned on. He said that one of these doors is not sealing properly and that I should have the dealer check the timing on these doors; they may be out of sync. Further, the mechanic said that the dealer could probably fix this through a software enhancement or reload/re-calibrate of these doors.

The mechanic tested the pressure in the system and it's fine he says.

Could this be possibly true? I've never heard of these doors before (but what do I know...). Has anyone experienced this type of problem before? Does anyone have a guess as to what type of dealer cost this would involve? Thanks.

 

I've heard that this could be the climate control unit failing as well. There are little motorized doors that control that the air flow through out the car so it is possible one has failed.

 

I had the same problem and lucky for me the car was under warranty..it took the dealer a week or more to figure it out.First they said it was some kind of a sensor and the vents don't open.Cant quite remember what else because it was done about 4-5 yrs ago but I do remember the vents were squeaking ,like the couldn't open.I hope you have a local shop/non-dealer because I'm sure it's going to cost a lot.
