Default Brought home a S80

So I found a deal on a S80 T6 that I thought was too good to pass on. I knew the trans was shot when I got it so I picked up a rebuilt one from a local recycler. Today I finally got a chance to read the codes. I got a P1238, P0036, and a P0335. It's kind of hard to start but, usually starts if you press the gas to the floor and hold it. It also has some other little things like the cup holder doesn't go down, the sunroof doesn't work, and the center console has the leather pealing off. Other than that it's in pretty good shape. I have some questions though. Is the boost sensor a solenoid for the wastegates or a sensor for the ecu or both? The P0036 is an oxygen sensor but which is bank 1, the left or right?

not sure about your questions, but can you check the tire size looks like the front is thicker than the rear,

should be 225/50-R17 on those rims all around, hopefully its just my eyes,,

btw welcome to the forums this car has a lot of issues, good luck with solving them

Good eye. The fronts are 225/55/17s and the backs are 225/50/17. It will be fixed later on but, definitely low on the list right now. The trans is the only real big issue. The others shouldn't take that long to fix.

ok good, i guess nothing is rubbing when you turn

about the trans ? well you may be better to rebuild, that way you know everything was fixed and you get a warranty, used may give you the same issues again in the future, and the warranty is usually shorter, at least from what i heard

The transmission I got from the recycler just had a rebuild done on it. The plan is to throw that one in and get the car running. Then rebuild the one I take out and hold on to it as a spare. I do all my own work so I'm not to worried about having a warranty.

Just a little update and some more questions. I started pulling the engine bay apart in preparation of removing the transmission and found of interesting things.

First was this hose that was not connected to the turbo inlet piping.

Which goes to a T that goes back to this sensor on the radiator. What is that sensor?

I also found this rats nest while doing an overall inspection of the underneath once the car was in the air. Notice the red plug that is not plugged in. Should it be?

Do you have electrical schematics to follow as you do your inspection?

No, just looking for things out of the ordinary right now. I plan on down loading VADIS when I get home tonight.

Most recent update. I decided to yank the entire engine and subframe assembly to make things easier on myself. I'll be replacing the upper engine mount and both sets of control arm bushings. I also discovered why the o2 sensor wasn't plugged in. There's no plug on the sensor pig tail. Also found that the passenger side engine mount didn't have any bolts in it. Things leading me further to believe that the person who tried to fix it before me had no clue what they were doing.

If you don;t mind me asking, how much was the car and how much was the replacement trans? Trying to get an idea what prices these things going for lately...

VADIS or someone with detailed knowledge of these cars like tech are the only things that can help you figure out what is/isnt plugged in etc.. These cars have so many electrical and computer systems it can be a nightmare to diagnose sometimes..
Out of curiosity, were the head shielding blankets on the turbos from volvo or did someone add them later?

The car was $2k and the trans was a fresh rebuild I picked up from a local recycler for $890. When I'm done I'll have less than $3500 in it total and they've been selling around here for between $5500 and $7000.

So far the wiring part hasn't been that difficult. I completely removed the engine controls wiring harness while I was pulling the engine and will be replacing all of the convoluted tubing. The factory stuff has completely dry rotted and was falling apart in my hands.

The heat shield are completely factory. There's one that covers the part of the trans that runs under the downpipes as well. Very nice quality shield too.

Welcome, I just bought an s80 also and black too. If you go thru the s80 posts you will find one that says diagnostic software. You can download the Vadis onto your computer. It is a wonderful tool.

I was able to change my alternator myself this weekend from using the vadis and it runs great.

The connector looked like 02 sensor connector.. The sensor is something to do with the boost control. Can't remember the exact name though.
