Default how to chech turbo on s80 2.5

My son has a 2005 S80 2.5. He took it to the dealer for the 75,000 mile service. They called him and said his check engine light was on. They did something but still checked the turbo and said it was froze up and needed to be replace at a costs of $2,000. He called a mechanic friend of his that told him that the turbo should not go out a 75,000 miles. He is taking it to someone else in the morning to get it checked. How do you check it and where can I find some info on relacing the turbo. Thanks for any help, John.

Theres numerous reason why the turbo goes bad: past due oil changes, accelerating a cold turbo, not allowing the turbo to cool off after a hard drive or running the car with low oil. At 75,000 miles it shoulndt, but you can inspect it by accelerating the car and see if blue smoke its coming from the back tail pipe if it does yes your turbo its blown!
