Default Looking at buying used '00 S8 T6...help

Trying to get a car for my teenager and tonight I am looking at an '00 S80 T6 with triptronic and 131K miles for $3500.

The exterior and interior looks mint. Original owner with full service records.

What should I be looking for in the service records?
What questions should I asking as far as problems?
What should I be poking around in the engine and underside for potential trouble signals?

Thanks.

haha looks like you did not do your research on that year.Forget about looking for any problems.. Even if the car is in mint condition you will have problems with expensive$$ repair bill..Unless if you are a hardcore mechanic. But since this is for your teenage i would not recommend this car.
Just do a search on google or on here and you will find tons of major and minor issue which will be frustrating..
Dont you want a used car with fewer and easier problems??
If you like the S80 design then you will have to go to 2005-5006 model year. They have the least problems compare to previous years. ( keeping that older design)

I know the T6 is notorius for transmission problems. The s80 is an awesome car, and volvo makes amazing cars. But with any used car there will be problems, and volvo parts are more pricey than others. I bought an 05 s80 about 6 months ago and since then I have replaced some coolant hoses, both wheel bearings and the pcv system, plus some bulbs etc.. On the records you should look for things like pvc system cleaned, timing belt since volvo recomends it being done at 120k. Other expensive things like the battery alternator suspension work etc would be a big plus to find on the records. As well, remember volvo takes premium fuel, synthetic oil, and even special coolant. Also with a used car TLC is needed, if your teenager isn't the boy-racer type then this will be a great car. If your kid wants to race and speed and take hard turns, an expensive luxury car may not be the right choice.

2 things stand out in that ad to me. S80s don't have v6 engines, they are all inline transverse engines. Also the poster says its 'fast' which could mean they abuse the car... Means more engine and transmission wear and means less reliablity. Be cautious, and if you do want the car I'd try to get them down to 3000

The cosmetic looks good ..is there any check engine or any service indications on when you start the car. Make sure you check that ..
and like buying any used car get the car checked by the a service tech. Dont just rush in. The car has lot of miles. so get it inspected to rule of any flaws.
good luck

I agree, see if the seller would pay for it to be inspected, if it passes. Then that's another plus, if the seller refuses, walk away!!!

The S80 is a nice car with a vicious bite. Service at shops is EXPENSIVE. Learn to work on it yourself! It has the potential to be great, but the GM sourced 4T65 transmission is indeed a weak point of this car. Take it out and drive it easily at first, then run her hard. You definitely want to be thorough with making sure that the transmission doesn't have issues. Other than that; front suspension would be something that wears out in those, or any 12 year old car for that matter! Timing belt is something else you may want to make sure has been replaced. One of those go, it's RIP Engine. If everything checks out, $3000 is a good price in my opinion. That's just my two cents though!
Best of luck!

First of all, you have to consider what car do you really like. Then, you can start doing a research. I recommend Everett WA Magic Nissan. They offer great cars and the best dealerships like what I got. I came across a dealership in Washington on a site I used. The website showed me the vehicle costs and the dealership closest to me with the perfect vehicle. Here it is: Washington dealership.
