Default Mouse in Dash?

I think I found a mouse nest back behind the dash/glove compartment, is anyone familar with what's up in there, can I gain good access by pulling the glovebox out?

That's the last thing I want in there, any major wires that might come through that area? I don't want that dame mouse to chew on any wires!

Thanks,

Marc

I'm sorry man, but that is one of the most random things I have ever heard. As far as what may be up there, I have no clue. Tech will have an answer for you.

Did you find it inside or outside?

No doubt it's total out there, of all things, a freakin' mouse nest. I've run into that on my old pick-up or a snowmobile, but my Volvo that is a month new to me... I hope it's not a sign!

The mouse nest was up under the dash, I had to reach around the back of the glove box (once open) and pull it out.

I haven't had a chance to get in there and look around, but I'm wondering if that part of the dash is separate from the driver side or the center.

Really I'd like to pull the glove box and see if there is any damage and possible make sure the mouse is out and the way in is sealed. Flashes of the Great Outdoors bat scene run through my head, I can just see the little bastard jumping out right when I stick my face under the dash.

Thanks,
Marc

That is the Best movie. You just made me roll on the floor for Minutes.
I know the exact part you are talking about. I know it by heart.

The Glove box is pretty easy to remove. Remove the lower dash panel. There is screws at the bottom of the glovebox. The you will have to push in the sides when you open it to get it all the way out.

I better grab my old football helmet and fishing net... since those are the closest things I have!

Yeah, I'm not to concerned with getting the glove box out, I'm wondering where that bastard may have come in from or where it might be go once I get my paws in there. Then what wires might be in that glove box area that I might need to check...

Is there a cabin filter over there or an intake for the vent I might find, or should I approach that through the engine compartment?

Thanks again,

Marc

You will have to remove another cover to gain access to the Pollen filter.
There is some wires under there. I would just inspect enerything you can see.

Unless you want to remove the dash and inspect?

Volvo currently has a bulletin about "chirping" glove boxes. If you called up your dealer I'm sure they could take care of it for you. I haven't read the bulletin, so I'm not sure what it says to remedy the issue.

Why don't you stick a couple of mouse traps in the volvo one night?
See what happens.

It's not that uncommon. Worked on a 325i with a mouse living near the tranny cross member, also had the same encounter, but in the engine near the firewall in a van and a 80s elderado caddy. It happens.
