Default Problems shifting out of park

Recently when the car is parked on an incline I have to get out and rock the car so my wife can shift out of park. Any clues as to what's going on?

Thanks

Check the shifter cable under the hood I have had to replace a few of them lately because the outside sheilding is falling apart. Then the cable will have to much play and not come out of park.

Hey tech,

Can you describe were that cable is under the hood? I may have a the same problem. When I park my car on my driveway (slight incline). I have to apply allot of force to get it to come out of park.

Thanks.

I have this problem on rare occasion as well. Mine usually will happen when I'm first starting the car for the day. I have also resorted to rocking the car haha.

The cable attaches to the transmission like next to the air filter box. It is a black cable and slides into a bracket then attaches to an arm on the transmission.

if you are a real cheapskate like me I wrapped mine in many layers of electrical tape stretching it really tightly as you work your way up and down the cables exterior, worked for me!
