Default Is this the sound of the belt going???

Hi all, I'm new here (just bought a 99 T6 w/ 100K), thanks in advance for your time. I've read the posts about replacing timing belts/tensioners/pulleys and wondered if this is the dreaded sound. It kind of whines, but there's a sound like something is causing friction as well (bearings going maybe?). Engine still starts and drives, but the whine sound becomes higher pitched with higher RPMs.
It's my first volvo, and I only paid 4900 for it so I'm more than happy with putting in $800 to get this taken care of, I just wasn't sure if I correctly identified the sound... Thanks!
KT

Hurry up and replace the belts and tensioner, if your unsure of the history of the maintnance getting this done will give you some peace of mind, my 2000 s80 was smooth and quiet but I replaced the items at 114,000, and they were ready.

For the timing belt, tensioner, pulley and the accessory belt and tensioner, I was quoted $975, this seems higher than what I've been reading on other posts... I'll keep checking around...

That's about $100 more than I paid, and I was on the high end. What's the hourly labor rate at your shop? Mine is $91, so I'm guessing yours is higher.

AT the volvo delearship, I Was quoted 800$ for the timing belt service, (plus I have a 10% coupon) so like 720$ for a 2001 volvo s80 t6

get timing belt kit from autohausaz.com for $200 made in germany, and get some good mechanic to put in it for you i think that would be alot cheaper

The thing is that you want to replace some other stuff while you are at it. The tensioner and pulley should be done at the same time. If the tensioner gives way then it can throw the belt just as badly as if the belt broke!

My 02 S80 2.9 just crossed the 100,000 mile mark and im considering the timing belt change.. However, I dont think I want to do that right now unless I specifically have to.. Is there any way to look at the belt and judge its condition? Also, if I part hunt online, what do you think the cost of the timing belt, pulleys and tensioners will be? I only bought the volvo on 98,000 miles so I cant speak of the prior service history (although the prior owners seem to have treated it quite well)..

I just did the same on my 96 Accord (family owned since it was bought), near 160,000 miles... the belt was fine but it was a precautonary measure.. Reason being, the belt burst in our 99 Mitsuibishi Pajero (Montero in the US) 2.5l Turbodiesel and the repair cost was relatively high..

Yes I am in Florida.
But over in Orlando.
I work at a Independant shop thats about 4 miles from the Volvo dealer here in winterpark.

Unless something changed I know the service manager there in Tampa. Last I knew he was still Service Manager.

His name is Eric Rivera. If you ever happen to talk to him tell him ALAN said hi!!

No problem Alan, I plan to be there in a few weeks to get a few odds and ends done. I guess if I really have any work I want done, I can make the run up to Orlando, doesnt take me very long to blast up I-4 anyway..
If you dont mind me asking, what is the labour cost at the establishment your wou work for?
Thanks
