Default SRS Replacement

My '99 S80 T6 was taken to the dealer because the SRS light was on. They diagnosed the problem as follows "Check for cause of SRS light on STC codes -0115 - control module internal fault preform diagnostics for code stored. Tech found that vehicle requires a SRS control unit"

So I took apart the console:

I got the Bosch part number off of my unit (0 285 001 254) then went to Ebay. I can purchase another module with the same part number off a Volvo that the air bags didn't deploy for $49.99. My question is will this work in my car??? If so can a dealer program it to work with my car? Does anybody know of any Volvo dealers in Ontario Canada or upstate New York that will do this???

I am trying to avoid paying $702 for a brand new module from the dealer.

sorry didn't write the correct module number. It should be 0 285 001 256 as pictured above

Well it's taken a long time but I have got it fixed. I called BBA Reman (http://www.bba-reman.com)and had another chat with them. This time a got a girl that was much more helpful. They were able to order another SRS module identical to my module(same part number 0 285 001 256). Cost of the module was $250 + core charge of $75 and $18 shipping which is much easier to swallow compared to the Volvo dealer cost.

Now I had to find a dealer that was willing to attempt the install/programming. The dealer where the car was bought said they wouldn't do it even if I paid them regardless if it worked or didn't work (they are absolutely awful to deal with so I won't mention any names... VanHerpt Volvo...oops) So I called the next closest dealer and they didn't seem to have a problem doing it at all.

Drove the car up there and within a couple hours the SRS module was installed and working. Best part is it only took them 1 hour labor to install, the car didn't require a software update or anything. I also had them pull the codes on the car... which I am going to post in a separate thread because I am going need some help with my intermittent Cruise Control problem. I figured these codes would help diagnose the problem. So $107 1hr. labor + 53.50 to pull codes + taxes.... Total for the job included the core charge and taxes $525

So for the next person that has an Internal Fault code on the SRS system. Get the SRS part number from your Volvo...call BBA and order the part from them not the Volvo dealer. It's simple once you have done it... just doesn't seem to be allot of info on this topic
