Default Trans Fluid

Is there another type of Trans Fluid that I can buy for a 2002 S80 2.9 non-turbo instead of buying it from the overpriced dealer?

the fluid is synthetic, you just have to match the specs, check your manual for the proper spec...volvo does not make its own fluids so it should not be a problem to match it, i would still rather go to volvo just to be safe, you dotn want to take chances on your tranny, this is not engine oil you know

yeah the axle probly was damages right ?

yeah i was inquiring about that cause i want to replace the fluid, the tranny pan doesnt even have a drain plug, you can get a kit that includes the gasket and the filter ( yes there is a filter, not just a simple magnet ) the tech at the tranny shop tells me you dont need to replace the gasket because its a metal bonded gasket with rubebr on both sides, so maybe you can get just the filter, i rather be safe and do things right - do it once, if the gasket leakes you need to replace more fluid for no reason you know ?!?!?!

look into it further with these trannies being GM low quality you wanna take care of them a little better you know

I just contacted my dealer and asked them if they sell ATF fluid and they said that for a 2002 S80 2.9 non-turbo its STANDARD trans fluid and that they dont sell it in containers. I asked them which one I should buy from the store then and they said Dexron 6 or 5. I looked in my owners manual and it said Dexron 3 they said it doesnt matter if you mix any of the Dexron 3 or higher.

Idk why but they said you can mix Dexron 3-6 so I didnt want to spend $7 a quart on Dexron 6 because I needed about 14 quarts and that would cost me $100 to fill up my trans so I finally found my manual and in it it said to use Dexron 3 so I bout that for $3.50 a quart.
