Default Winter Mode Button?

99 s80 2.9

Hello,

Does anyone actually know what effect the Winter Mode button will have on the car if I press it. I have never ever used it as long as I had the car. Lots of snow here in Chicago so im thinking of trying it out once. And also is there a certain speed at which it should be a pressed.

I used it the other day and didn't slip and slide quite as much? Not sure if it was that or my slow driving in the conditions?

Winter mode starts the car off in third gear. This is to reduce the chances of tire slippage when taking off on slick, icy roads. It wont hurt the car and it goes off when you turn the engine off or push the button again.

this really only helps on straight flat roads, i live on a 40 (100feet long) degree angled hill which leads to flat road then to my 50 degree'd angle of my driveway it doesnt help. I have to shut the STC off also lol I just kinda gas it up there, you should see the snow that flies some times from my front wheels lol!

2 weeks after getting my s80, october 07 to be exact I was driving from tampa to miami and got trapped in a HUGE sudden florida style thunderstorm... so bad i couldnt see a thing, i put on the wet mode, and I swear i had better traction on the turnpike, may just be in my mind but that one time i used it, i swear it works..
Having great tyres with AA traction would help also im assuming...

I CAN NOW SAY POSITIVELY THAT IT MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! MY S80 IS BY FAR THE BEST FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE IN SNOW I HAVE EVER WONED. FOR THAT MATTER, THE BEST VEHICLE PERIOD! I ALSO COULD TELL A DIFFERENCE FROM DRIVNG IN THESE SNOW COVERED ROADS THAT FROM A DEAD STOP THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE WITH THE WINTER MODE BUTTON ON AND TRACTION CONTROL. ALSO CRUISING ALONG ABOUT 35-40 MPH THAT TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON ALOT LESS WITH THE WINTER MODE TURNED ON!
