I am 99% certain the PCV box is a problem
So what would or should I call it?
- If they didn't install all the parts that are noted on the invoice
- If they didn't do all the labor
- But they get paid by Volvo for all the warranty parts and labor
Yep!
I've been talking to Volvo N.A and their curious about it.
You are a Volvo tech and I am sure that you don't like hearing such stuff.

I certainly do not. I stand up for dealerships a lot on here and crap like this makes us all look bad. If I was a service manager and I had a tech who did that, he would be gone. Unfortunately, that isn't usually how it goes. There are guys I work with that do some half assed stuff- drives me crazy. Or ones who sell work that isn't needed. Or sell at inflated labor times. It catches up with them sooner or later. But not until they've scammed a whole lot of money.
I relate. The same thing happens in the business I do. I am ethical to a fault and I've lost business to people who lie. Sometimes the lies really hurt and tick me off but I just gotta let it go. It is part of life.

If you are still listening.
At this moment the car is at the dealer to have the hose installed. I told the service manager that because the intake gaskets are noted on the invoice, I want them installed.
Service manager said that the tech would have replaced them when he did the housing. I said that he may have just replaced the housing and didn't remove the intake. Service manager says - he would have to remove the intake. I said that there was dirt in other places that showed that the top that covers coils and upper PCV hose connection showed miles worth of dirt down in the torx screws. Service manager said -- well I didn't see it you did so --- shrugs his shoulders and says they will install new intake gaskets.
Plus --- if the guy went to all the labor time to remove the intake and NOT replace a $25 hose would make me wonder about the repair protocol of the dealer shop.
Plus -- the service manager said that they re-use the intake gaskets. If that is true it is IMHO bad protocol to not renew $30 worth of gaskets on a car with 100,000 miles on it.
My personal rule is -- if I am in there; if I spent the 1.5 hours of labor time to get in there; I am going to replace items that can be renewed and not skimp on $30 of parts.
The bad part is there is no way for me to make sure they renewed those gaskets.

If the hose was not reolaced, the intake was not removed. I can guarantee that. There is no need to remove the intake to do the housing. The service manager likely has no idea what it takes to do the job. Either the technician removed the intake and replaced the hose or he did just the housing.
The job pays to do the housing and hose, including new clamps and intake o-rings.
Ask for the old hose and o-rings back. You'll be able to tell if the o-rings they give you are old.

Aside from the things below I found the blue cap that covers the fuel pressure schrader valve. It was laying down in the injectors. I know what it is but not sure where it is located on this engine. Never mind I found it.
Just got the car back. I didn't need to ask for the old hose because there is a big difference between the old hose and the new hose. I can squeeze the new hose but the old hose was hard as a rock.
When I took the car in and told the service manager I want new O rings he said that the tech probably replaced them when he had the intake off to replace the housing. I said that the housing can be replaced without removing the intake. Manager said --- ok we will replace them.
The service manager said that on a turbo you don't need to replace the intake O rings but they replaced them anyhow.
This time there is a oetiker clamp on the PCV hose / housing.
I am 100% satisfied with my belief that during the previous visit they never removed the intake.
Got the car home and did a quick check --- quick because it was raining. Immediately I saw the big worm gear clamp hanging on the rear big turbo hose. I tightened it but I had to say to myself....why didn't they see it.
To be fair I've done the same thing on throttle body hoses and other intake hoses. BUT it is not a customer car and I don't call myself a technician.
Sigh! I didn't have the heart to tell the service manager about the clap and schrader valve cap.
Now on to fixing the CD player that doesn't want to play CD's.

Very true. Just stay the ethical course because you can sleep better at night and in the long run it does pay off.
From what I've been through unless I am handcuffed to do so, I won't be going back to that local dealer. I appreciated their $50 gift card but it won't buy my trust.
