Default immobiliser try start again

Hi all,
I have a problem with my 2008 v50. The battery was dead and I tried to jump it off my XC90. It turned over a few times then when tried again there was nothing except a message saying 'immobiliser try start again'. I called out the AA who just said there's no comms from the ecu and wasn't much help other than that. Can anyone advise? Would it be likely I'd need a new ecu?

I'd try disconnecting the battery for a couple hours. Sometimes that will reset a computer (like your ECU or immobilizer) that's in a glitched state from the dead battery, or from some sort of voltage spike that happened during the jump.

Other than that, you are likely looking at a dealer-only kind of service, because of the immobilizer thing (if it has to be replaced or reprogrammed, only the dealer is going to be able to do it).

And it couldn't hurt to try another key if you have one. It's always possible (though unlikely) that your immobilizer just "forgot" one key.
