Hello all,

My 05 V50 has an odd cranking habit. It has been going on for nearly 3 years. I think it is about time that I get serious and try to diagnose the issue. It never does it at the dealership so they have been useless. Maybe someone here has heard of this. It happens about 1 start in 7. Here goes:

Engine temp does not appear to matter.

I turn key to start position.
Bendix engages, engine cranks a few revolutions, bendix disengages WITHOUT releasing ignition from start position.
I continue to hold ignition in start position, and bendix engages, cranking resumes and after a slightly extended cranking interval, engine starts.

Wierd hey?!

Any clues?

Mine has been doing the same for about a year now. There is a guy on Swede Speed that disassembled his starter and may have found the cause.

My 05 T5 has been doing the same for about a year now. Seems to happen when the car has sat for a while, say, overnight. It does not always happen. I have found that if I put the key in, wait a second or two then try to start, the issues seems to occur less. BTW, notice that the gauges go crazy when this happens?

I will check out the post to swedespeed to see what that has to say.
